The Sultan's Wife (1917)

Bobby (Bobby Vernon) and Gloria (Gloria Swanson) are on holiday in India. The Sultan entertains them at his palace, but he takes an unhealthy interest in Gloria and decides to add her to his harem, by force if necessary.

He is going to compel her to do an erotic dance for him, dressed in diaphanous garments, and the only way out is for Bobby to swap clothes with her and do the dance himself. The Sultan's powers of discernment are such that he doesn't immediately notice the exchange of identities.

Gloria is hiding under the carpet in the picture; at least two of the harem girls heartily disapprove of Bobby's dancing technique, judging by their facial expressions.
